This machine is a copy of the USA machine Man 'n The Moon:

1935 Man 'n The Moon by Daval

I do not think Man Star was made in the USA.  I think it was copied.  There are many small differences.  All of the Japanese pinballs use a Japanese-style coin mechanism that you do not see anywhere else.  This would be easy to convert to though.  

The biggest difference here is that the USA version has a backglass.  The USA version has different text on the playfield, and more painted stars.

Different holes, different locations:

USA version has holes in the curves.  The Japanese version does not.
The Free Play holes on either side of the face are closer to the center in the USA version.

Bueschel is referring to the direct translation of the Japanese name here, perhaps implying he had not seen that it says MAN STAR on the playfield.
